Loppersum

During the past quarter, a lift bridge was put into operation in Groningen in the municipality of Loppersum. The first fiber reinforced plastic road bridge in Groningen. The new lift bridge is located over the canal the Wijmers.

Due to the materialization, the bridge case, the movable part of the bridge, is extremely light. This fits seamlessly with the broader trend of increasingly using lightweight VVK in moving bridges, due to its obvious advantages in terms of energy savings and ease of operation. This makes this lift bridge the first manually operated lift bridge in the Netherlands!

FiberCore Europe itself was at the forefront of this trend with the fabrication of the Main Bridge at Oosterwolde entirely from fiber-reinforced plastic, a world first. Soon FiberCore Europe will deliver another second lift bridge in Meppel and a large drop in swing bridge at Muiden.
